About the Author

M.C. Ross is an author for young readers, a playwright, and a dog walker when he’s lucky. His first series for young readers began in 2019 with the release of A Dog’s Porpoise, followed by sequel Find Your Porpoise (2024). His first action-adventure book, Game Over, was published in 2022. And in 2023 he released Nugly, which has since been nominated for the Colorado Children’s Book Award, Tennessee’s Volunteer State Book Award, and Wyoming’s Indian Paintbrush Book Award.

Most recently, he has just finished Nugly’s forthcoming follow-up novel, Smiley, which is set to come out in summer 2025. In the meantime, he is working on writing his next book. And the next one after that. And maybe some more books after that. He likes to write.

Originally from Apple Valley, Minnesota, M.C. Ross knew that he wanted to be a writer from the time he was in first grade. He went to Harvard University, got a degree in English, moved to New York, and started writing books for kids. Well, there were some other steps in the middle—he wore a funny hat and worked as a tour guide; he went door to door around Minnesota raising money for Sesame Street; and he spent two years as a babysitter to a family of three Siberian Huskies, all of whom were insane. Now, as of 2024, his books have sold over a million copies worldwide (he is just as surprised as you are). Overall, he feels very fortunate.
